Structure and Applications of Quartz Boats
With the rapid advancements in domestic electric light sources, semiconductors, cutting-edge optical technologies, as well as in the fields of chemical engineering, metallurgy, electrical engineering, and scientific research, the demand for and applications of quartz boats have been steadily expanding. Let us now examine the composition and uses of quartz boats.
Quartz boats are made from silica‑containing materials such as quartz and silica sand, which are melted at high temperatures to produce a glassy material. They exhibit excellent optical properties: they not only transmit light exceptionally well but also allow ultraviolet and infrared radiation to pass through. As an outstanding acid‑resistant material, they withstand the corrosive action of sulfuric acid, nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, aqua regia, neutral salts, carbon, and sulfur even at elevated temperatures. Their chemical stability is approximately 30 times that of acid‑resistant ceramics and 150 times that of nickel‑chromium alloys and conventional ceramics. Moreover, they offer superior resistance to high temperatures, thermal shock, and possess an extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion.
